What this site is
TechMeStuff exists to make engineering knowledge practical, fast, and trustworthy for people who actually use it — students working through homework, technicians wiring a panel, makers choosing a filament, professionals double-checking a design before they sign off.
Every page is built around one of three things:
- Interactive calculators that solve a real problem in your browser, with the formula visible and editable inputs you can poke at until it makes sense.
- Worked examples with concrete numbers — not just an equation.
- Plain-English explainers that connect the formula to what you're actually trying to build.
Engineering reference content on the open web is mostly two extremes — Wikipedia-grade rigor that buries the answer, or YouTube comments that give the wrong answer with confidence. TechMeStuff aims for the middle: rigorous enough that a working engineer can use it, accessible enough that a curious beginner can learn from it.
What we cover
We're focused on a small number of engineering disciplines and going deep, rather than spreading thin across everything. Current and planned coverage:
- Mechanical engineering — fasteners, gears, belts, fluid flow, structural elements
- Electrical & electronics — circuit design, batteries, wiring, components
- 3D printing & additive manufacturing — slicer math, materials, hardware
- Robotics & mechatronics — motors, controllers, sensors
As coverage in these areas matures, we'll expand into civil/structural, chemical/process, and aerospace — but only when we can do each justice.
How it's funded
TechMeStuff is funded by display advertising. We don't sell affiliate links inside calculators, gate calculators behind email signups, or accept payment from manufacturers in exchange for favorable mentions. If a specific product is recommended in an article, it's because we believe it's the right answer — not because we're paid to say so.

Who runs it
TechMeStuff is built and maintained by Isaiah Dupree, with formula verification and editorial review by named contributors with engineering backgrounds. See the author archive and methodology page for details on how content is produced and verified.
